A top of the mornin to ya!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you All!!

This is the day where I can play with food coloring and celebrate my Irish Heritage to its fullest :)
I am making Green Oat Pancakes with green syrup and green applesauce for breakfast,

and Irish Stew, and Irish Soda Bread for dinner.

For Dessert we are having Irish Cream Cheesecake, yum.

The kids made some fun stuff yesterday to take to school, green sparkle wands and Irish potato candy.

And of course got all dressed up for the Day-

Irish Stew

Ingred;

3T. butter
2c. stew meat, I am allergic to lamb so I used beef
1/2c. minced onion
1/2c. chopped carrots
2c. peeled, cubed potatoes
1/2c. peeled cubed parsnips
1/2c. peeled, cubed turnips
2T. vegetable soup bouillon
1 small handful crushed, dried parsley
Salt and pepper
enough Water to cover the vegies.

I sauteed my butter and meat together until it was almost cooked through, stir in about 1/2t. pepper, 1t. salt. Then add in the onions and carrots until the onions became translucent. Then I tossed in the potatoes, parsnips and turnips. I added enough hot water to cover the vegie's with about 1/2 inch extra.
I stirred in the vegie bouillon, then added in my parsley and brought to a boil. I let this simmer covered until the vegies are tender.
I don't how traditional it is but it was sure tasty :)

May luck be our companion
May friends stand by our side
May history remind us all
Of Ireland's faith and pride.
May God bless us with happiness
May love and faith abide.

Your Irish meal was so much better than my mom's. She always made corned beef and cabbage. Blech!

That sounds great! You will have to post your recipe for the potato candy - what is it?

Don't you just love these holidays where you get to dress up and have themed meals?! I think it's great! I have never made soda bread but I'm thinking about it for our dinner tomorrow (see my blog). P.S. You asked about my food photos. My camera actually has a "Food" setting on it. Somehow it is able to really focus on the food. I don't know how it works but it's great. :)

Looks like you had a delicious St. Patty's Day! The kids look so cute decked out in their green.

We normally have a huge Irish dinner, but today we went small and had potato soup!

OK, next year I will be more festive. I just had Irish Soda Bread for the first time today...it was great, but I never do anything else. Bookmarking these recipes for next year! OK, the stew might get tried before then.

The pic of the kids all decked out for St. Patricks Day is so cute!

Your Irish Stew sounds delicious. My daughter has been asking me to make stew, so I picked up all the ingredients. I think I'll try your recipe when I make it!

I was so lame this year I didn't even wear green! Of course I'm not irish at all, but usually I like to do fun stuff for the kids... right now I'm just too tired! :P
